Mangalorean Tendli Chana Upkari | Mangalorean Kadle Manoli | Ivy gourd Black chana side dish

Recipe Ingredients
. 250grms Tendlis (Ivy gourd) (slit vertically into 4 pieces)
. 1/2 cup soaked Black chanas (black chickpeas)
. 1/2 cup Freshly grated coconut
. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
. 7 to 8 Curry leaves
. Salt as per taste
. 1/2 tsp Urad dal(Black gram)
. 2 tsp Sambar masala
. 2 tsp Coriander seeds
. 1 tsp Mustard seeds
. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
. 1/2 tsp Asafetida powder(Hing)
. 2 to 3 tsp Oil
. Water
Method
Step 1 - Soak chanas in water overnight or for 4 to 5 hours.
Step 2 - Heat a pan. Dry roast coriander seeds, mustard seeds, urad dal and cumin seeds.
Step 3 - Grind this dry roasted mixture coarsely and keep aside.
Step 4 - Heat oil in a pan.
Step 5 - Add ½ tsp mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafetida powder and turmeric powder.
Step 6 - Saute it for a minute.
Step 7 - Add tendli(Ivy gourd) and saute for a minute.
Step 8 - Add Black chanas (black chickpeas) and saute.
Step 9 - Add salt as per taste.
Step 10 - Add required quantity of water.
Step 11 - Cover the lid and let it cook for 7 to 10 minutes.
Step 12 - Add the dry roasted masala & sambar masala.
Step 13 - Now add freshly grated coconut and mix well.
Step 14 - Cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes more.
. Mangalorean Tendli Chana Upkari is ready to be served
. Serve hot with rice and tomato saar. This goes well with bhakari or Chapati.
