Demography and Geography Kenya is a multi-ethnic state in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. It is inhabited primarily by Bantu and Nilotic populations, with some Cushitic-speaking ethnic minorities in the north. Its total population is estimated at 47.5million people spread over 580,367 km2 of land. It borders South Sudan to the northwest, Uganda to the west, the Jubaland province of Somalia to the east, Tanzania to the south, and Ethiopia to the north. The climate of Kenya varies by location, from mostly cool every day, to always warm/hot. The climate along the coast is tropical meaning rainfall and temperatures are higher throughout the year. At the coastal cities, Mombasa, Lamu and Malindi, the air changes from cool to hot, almost every day.Elevation is the major factor in temperature levels, with the higher areas, on average 11 °C cooler, day or night. The many cities over a kilometer in elevation have temperature swings from roughly 10–26 °C. Although Kenya is centered at the equator, it shares the seasons of the southern hemisphere with the warmest summer months in December to March and the coolest winter months in June to August. Tanzania on the other hand has a population of about 55.4 million peoplespread unevenly on 947,303 km2 of land. The population distribution in Tanzania is extremely uneven. Most people live on the northern border or the eastern coast, with much of the remainder of the country being sparsely populated. The population consists of about 125 ethnic groups. The Sukuma, Nyamwezi, Chagga, and Haya peoples have more than 1 million members each. Tanzania comprises many lakes, national parks, and Africa's highest point, Mount Kilimanjaro 5,895m. Northeast Tanzania is mountainous, while the central area is part of a large plateau covered in grasslands. Northeast Tanzania exhibits a mountainous terrain and includes Mount Meru, an active volcano, Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano, and the Usambara and Pare mountain ranges.Tanzania has a tropical climate but has regional variations due to topography. In the highlands, temperatures range between 10 and 20°C during cold and hot seasons respectively. The rest of the country has temperatures rarely falling lower than 20°C. The hottest period extends between November and February 25–31°Cwhile the coldest period occurs between May and August 15–20 °C. Tanzania has two dry seasons and two rainy seasons. A critical look at the demography of both countries indicate that Tanzania has both a larger population and surface area compared to Kenya. More so, the climatic conditions in Tanzania with its relative four seasons and friendly temperatures, has a better climate as well. So, for this round Tanzania has a slight edge over Kenya Infrastructure Kenya is set out to be one of the top five fastest growing
