@
@markg80224 years agoThe actor who played Nellie was an awfully shy child, and it resulted in her not even being able to look in the eyes of the other actors. The director, William Claxton, had a terrible time to keep reminding her to look the person in the eyes when she was speaking. You can even see it in Nellie's performance. Many times, she keeps looking downward, unable to fix her gaze. ...206

@
@lucille19195 years agoCan't think of a single show where Nelly didn't get her comeuppance in the end. Mrs. Oleson and Willie were pretty hilarious also. Mrs. Olson was so over-the-top mean- like mother like daughter. And Willie was mean but sometimes he made such deliriously funny self-deprecating comments. At school he was always getting sent to the corner. So often that sometimes he would say to the teacher "I know, I know go stand in the corner." ...48

@smittysmeee2 years agoAw man, these are not lowlights, they're highlights. We all loved to hate Nellie! Alison Arngrim was, and still is, a genius. She was treated poorly by fans who were too young to understand she was playing a role, but she was able to laugh at it, and she used Nellie's strength to help herself through a very hard childhood. Watching Nellie mature into a decent, hardworking, kind wife and mother throughout the series was so satisfying. ...3
