@RicoBurghFan3 years ago This actually isn't the Doobie Brothers, it's by Dobie Gray, and it's called Drift Away, and he had a huge hit with it in 1974. As you said, Amber, it was covered by many artists, but as far as I know the Doobies weren't one of them. Please feel free to fact check me Rob Squad Family! ... 885

@jeffdetmer46813 years ago Yeah not the Doobies. This was Dobie Gray. However doesn't take away from how good the song was and still is. Y'all still need to listen to The Doobie Bros. song Black Water. I think you will love it. Do that baby a favor from the minute he is born, or even before that lol. Play music from the 60s and 70s and then go back to the crooner and big band days. You guys might actually like the big band era. Lots of great horns and rhythms. Stay well!!! ... 190

@rab693273 years ago When you said who you were reacting to I thought that I never knew the Doobie Bros covered this song but was excited to hear their version, but as soon as the first note played I knew instantly that it was no other than the Great Doby Gray. I absolutely love this song. Great reaction!!!! ... 33

@johnhughesii51213 years ago No mistaking that soulful voice....definitely Dobie Gray. As a child of the 60's and 70's I can tell you this song was played a lot on the radio. I have a suggestion for another song that got a lot of play in the 70s. Al Stewart-Year of the Cat, that has a vibe with instruments you both will love. It was released in 1975 which coincidentally or not was the year of the cat on the Vietnamese zodiac calendar. A song roughly based on the 1943 movie Casablanca. ... 218

@AnimeOtakuDrew3 years ago The song is actually called "Drift Away." The original version was recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972, but the most iconic and widely known version (and my personal favorite version) was recorded a year later by Dobie Gray (and this is actually Gray's version, truth be told; I can't find any of the actual Doobie Brothers version on YouTube, they're all either Dobie Gray, Uncle Kracker, or Kurtz). Beautiful song though; I've always loved it!
My recommendation this time is another song I think you guys will enjoy and feel as well. It's called "Little Bit O' Soul" by The Music Explosion. I can almost guarantee you'll love it!

@bobchandler71203 years ago "Drift Away" has also been covered by many bands and vocalists around the world. Versions include those of Clarence Carter, Uncle Kracker, Allan Clarke, Roy Orbison, Ike & Tina Turner, Humble Pie, Mud, Jackie DeShannon, Rod Stewart, James Hollis, Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, the Neville Brothers, Jon Bon Jovi, Copperhead, Christian Kane, the Rolling Stones, the Nylons, Ringo Starr, Bruce Springsteen, BoDeans, Judson Spence, Billy Joe Royal, Steve Young and John Kay. Folk singer Tom Rush recorded the song on his album What I Know, released in 2009. The Rolling Stones recorded a cover of the song during the sessions for their It's Only Rock 'n Roll LP in 1974, but it did not appear on the finished album. The Heptones recorded a reggae version which is included on many compilation CDs. Street Corner Symphony also sang a version of this song as their swan song on the season 2 finale of the NBC series The Sing-Off; that version is arranged by Deke Sharon. Bon Jovi usually played the song live in 1987: a version was recorded as part of a Westwood One radio live series concert. Dolly Parton and Anne Murray performed the song together in 1976 on Parton's variety show Dolly!, though they sang the lyrics of the Felts' version ("I want to get lost in your country song"). Garth Brooks for the 2013 Blue-Eyed Soul album in the Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences compilation. Temuera Morrison recorded and included Drift Away in his 2014 debut album Tem. Country music star, Lynn Anderson (who was the partner of Mentor Williams who wrote the song), recorded a gospel version that was rewritten by Williams for her 2015 gospel album, Drift Away, which would become her final album. ... 1

@Looneyintheboonies3 years ago Oh boy, this isn't the Doobies, it's Dobie Gray and the song is called "Drift Away". Man, did we ever wear out the 45 rpm of this song playing it on the record player. You guys don't make boo boos, so I'm curious, how did this happen? Is there a video out there with the wrong title and artist listed? There's got to be, Otherwise you wouldn't have called it that. Back to the song though, I'm sure the Doobie Brothers would be flattered. Its one of my all-time favorite songs and the chorus is one of the most sing-a-long choruses ever! When I heard Amber say "give me the beat boys", I knew there'd been a foo paw (hillbilly for " faux pas") and it had to be this song, and I was excited to hear it, so thanks, y'all!!! ... 30

@karenpickford71123 years ago Dobie Gray released his version in 1973 and that's the one I remember. His name was Kenny Malone and he did pretty well on the drums. :) ... 4
