Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Hamilton on Friday to meet with families who have settled in the city after fleeing Afghanistan. The refugees say Canada is a safe haven and are excited about building their future here. Trudeau and his oldest son, Xavier visited Eastern Food Market on Upper Wentworth in Hamilton to greet two refugee families from Afghanistan. The refugee families say they tried to leave Afghanistan when the Taliban took control in August but couldn't. The Canadian government helped the families safely arrive in Canada through the neighbouring country of Pakistan. Eastern Food Market is a hub for Canadians of Afghan, Syrian, and Lebanese heritage. The CEO of Eastern Food Market says families from Afghanistan come here looking for a sense of community.
