"Rolf Kühn and His Sound of Jazz" is Rolf Kühn's second album as bandleader, preceded by "Streamline" in 1956. Though mostly standard in its composition it has occasional moments that would showcase some later styles that Rolf would venture into, such as soul jazz and post-bop. The LP was recorded in New York in 1960, with an entourage of American jazz musicians. Rolf Kühn performs on clarinet; John Bunch on piano and organ; Jack Sheldon on trumpet; Henry Grimes and George Duvivier on double bass; Ray Mosca and Don Lamond on drums; and Chuck Wayne and Jim Hall on guitar.
