McGwire had hit 2 home runs but the Cards lost in late May and he told the handful of reporters on that day game he wasnt talking about the homers. (This was before the media crush really began). I saw it as my first chance to try and get a one on one interview with Big Mac. Knowing what I know now, after the game is probably not the best time for that... Also, my buddy Kevin and camerman that day said, if hes not talking about home runs, ask him about going back to Philadelphia and if it brings back any special memories about the trade since it was where he made his Cardinal debut the year before, to ease him in to it. That didnt work....and so then I begin to freelance... THAT WORKED! Note the famous phrase he utters in here that became a household phrase in 2005...
