Simple but good food cooked in the Dutch oven is not difficult. There is a massive sense of satisfaction when you cook outdoors. I feel a connection with nature and admiration for our ancestors that cooked this way out of necessity. Bush craft teaches us so much more then just skills it teaches us patience, perseverance, gratitude and respect for what we get out of nature. Baking in the Dutch oven may seem difficult but once you get the feel for it it’s quite simple and fun. I have more success in the Dutch oven than in my modem oven at home. Wild camping has allowed me to cook over the camp fire many times and bushcraft has taught me a vast amount of skills but it has also made me patient. Bush cooking is one of them skills that requires patience, timing is key and keeping an eye on the embers is vital.
